Taking the first step to begin counseling can be difficult; change is hard. Whether it is a new stressor to be faced, or longer term challenges that continue to become more complicated, I like to help people rediscover their strengths and regain confidence. As we begin working together, I start by establishing a safe, nonjudgmental atmosphere. I collaborate with clients to explore the thoughts and behaviors that have helped in the past, as well as those that have been less effective, to assist them in meeting goals they have identified.
I work with adults. My experience includes individual therapy and marriage/couples counseling, treating anxiety and mood disorders, anger management, personality disorders and phase of life issues.
I often find that a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation skills teaching, and coping skill development coaching can be quite helpful to improve an individual or couple's quality of life. At the same time, it is my belief that one counseling style does not fit all. Because each client or couple brings different skills and qualities to the counseling environment, I tailor my approach to accommodate to what works best for them in therapy. I have a calm, down to earth demeanor that fosters an environment that is supportive, challenging and focused on personal insight and growth.
